Mommy Mundo's Expo Kid 5

Have you ever gone out where all your family members get to bond and enjoy at the same without having to spend that much? Most of the time when the family eat out or visit the mall planning should be done ahead especially if your family is as big as mine (including their appetites ). Thus a parent need to be creative and prepared for the upcoming expenses. I cannot see anything wrong in explaining to my kids why going out does not have to be extravagant because what matters is that we get to bond and spend time together. Since I plan on taking them out as a pre celebration for my youngest son's birthday on March 4, coincidentally this coming Saturday there we will be an upcoming event  intended for kids especially now that the school year is about to close . I am referring to Mommy Mundo's  Expo Kid 5 which will be held at 500 Shaw Events Pavilion this coming March 2, 2013.

mommymundo.com.

Headed by Janice Crisostomo Villanueva, founder of Mommy Mundo together with its partners jakenpoy.com, CraftMNL, venue partner 500 Shaw Events Pavilion and other valued partners and exhibitors, moms and dads are invited to bring their kids to the Expo 2013 to get some ideas for this coming summer activities.

Though my kids usually spend their vacation with my mom in the province what triggered my interest was that this Expo 2013 will feature major interactive activity for kids where they can try out crafting stations for Craft MNL, check out the fun and learning modules of jacknpoy, music, arts and sports activities from Kids Club as well as Crayola. There will also be booths from other activity providers all over Metro Manila  as well as a shopping bazaar which is Mommy Mundo's trademark mompreneur market featuring more than 40+ booths on site. What more this event is open to public with a minimal entrance fee of P20 per person which will benefit MomShare outreach projects.

Below are the exciting activities at Expo 2013 :

So for moms and dads out there, what are you waiting for ? Come visit and bring along your kids  this Saturday for this whole day event and spread the word to your friends as well. It will definitely be an event worth your time as it will be filled with fun, learning and laughter.

Mommy Pages and My Favorite "Me Time " Prize

Mondays and Tuesdays are currently my favorite days of the week. These days are meant for catching up on sleeping, spending time with my kids and doing the laundry. They are also days spent on blogging, surfing the net for information and time spent for fitness and well being. At times I feel my rest days are kind of short perhaps because even when I am not at work my mind and body are just as busy as well.

It was two Tuesdays ago when I chanced upon a facebook page that caught my fancy because of of its name. I went ahead for a visit and after reading its posts immediately liked it. What more I decided to join its contest by posting a comment where you get a prize if you get chosen. My objective was to learn from other mommies' comments and winning was the farthest thing in my mind especially after learning that most commenters have very young kids. Still I went ahead and posted my comment. The question and mechanics were very simple.

Now here was what I posted. Notice that there was even a grammatical slip that I only have seen while writing this post. (Hint: subject and verb agreement)

Sarah Bucu says:
When my kids were small reading and watching my favorite late night shows was my favorite “me time.” Now that most of them have grown up I look forward in joining the aerobics class at the park. I realized that since I chose to live longer for them I need to take care of my well being and it is good that they understand.

A week later I got an email stating I just won. I really could not believe my luck. I replied thanking them for choosing me as the winner then I visited their facebook page where it all started. And here was what I saw.

Winning is such a heady and wonderful feeling. To the admin and staff of Mommy Pages, thanks again and more power !

Not Just Wishful Thinking

I once read a story of a famous local actress who long wanted to have a white car for her kids. She just got separated from her comedian-husband who was then known for his philandering ways and developed relationships with his co hosts. Since this local actress was too proud to ask from the father of her kids, she pretended that she already had bought the car to the point of even telling her maid to open their gates almost every day so she can let the make believe car 's driver wheeled it at her parkway. Of course it was all done in pretense and the maid almost resigned thinking that her master might have gone cookoo perhaps because of the separation.

A few months after that, the ex husband called her saying that their kids were getting old and that perhaps it was about time they have a car that they can use during emergencies. Since the actress really wanted to have a car mainly because of her kids ' sake she did not decline. She just simply accepted her children's gift irrespective of the car's brand or color. On the day when the car was delivered both the actress and her maid could not believe what they saw. And as the driver parked the car at the pavement the actress ' face paled because in front of her was the brand new white car that she had long wanted.

This story happened in real life. Time and again I have learned that if you want something so badly, think and believe that you already have it. As crazy as it may sound but that's how dreams are made. Positivity is such a contagious thing, in fact each time I passed by a store where there are mobile phones on display, especially if they are on sale triggers that optimism that it wont be long that I will have one. And because I am one person who believes in getting my money's worth, when it comes to mobile or smart phones only one brand comes to mind - NOKIA. With all the financial demands of school, rent, utilities and other basic needs it is very hard at times to set aside for gadgets and recreation. And so I continue to long, plan and believe that one day I would eventually have that new Nokia phone.

A few days ago I got an email from Nuffnang about their current movie and raffle contest - Nuffnang, Nokia & Abenson Bring You "Oz The Great And Powerful " Movie Screening. Nuffnang bloggers get a chance to win tickets to a special screening of the great  Disney movie plus raflle entries to win either a Nokia Lumia 620 or a Nokia Lumia 820 smartphone. And I said to myself that the timing could never been better.

Below are some of the cool features of this new and awesome Nokia smartphone :

Live Tiles

From the word itself each tile gives you instant access to apps, contacts, emails, facebooks and tweets on your homescreen. These tiles update in real time when anything new happens. In other words each tile has a life of its own.

Nokia Smart Shoot

The next generation Lumia comes with  unique lens allowing you to take series of photos in a single click. You can combine smiles, edit images and enhance that shot that never took place and once done uploads your snaps right away for others to see.

Nokia City Lens

With this feature you get to discover your favorite city or a new one you just visited just by holding your phone up. You can find suggestions where the coolest restaurants, bars, and watch these nearby places pop up on your screen as well. You also get to read reviews, get phone numbers, link to websites and create a list of places to visit another time.

Wireless Charging and Swappable Shells

With wireless charging it allows your phone to charge by simply putting it on its plate to boost the battery. There are lots of wireless to choose from - including the cool Nokia Wireless Charging Plate and the Charging Pillow by Fatboy. If you want to charge the Lumia 820 just add a wireless charging shell.

Ain't it cool not to look for your charger especially if you are in a hurry or had forgotten to bring it over ?

Nokia Lumia Windows 8 smartphones come with full versions of Microsoft Office, Outlook and Internet Explorer 10. You can create, edit Microsoft Power-Point, Excel and Word documents when you are out and about and browse everything like a breeze.
Business

The Day I Met Maddie and Matt

I belong to an age of games called piko (hop scotch), taguan (hide and seek ) and patintero (the game that until now has no English translation). Except for hop scotch where you simply hop and kick your magic stone (pato) to its destined location in order to win, the patintero and hide and seek are the more famous group games that will leave you thinking of strategies, running, yelling and for the desperate ones, cheating until you win. What made these games more exciting was you can play it at any time of the day, even during evenings especially during summer vacations. Yes, those where the days when playing was fun beneath the moonlight.

Nowadays games and recreation had become different. A lot of kids can now play games at the confines of their homes, at school while waiting for the school bus or for their parents to pick them up, even while commuting on their way home.Though these games need not to be physical and done in groups, some kids still get to be entertained and even learn from them. With the help of a mobile phone, ipad, psp or gameboy now almost everybody can play.

A week ago I got an email from Rhea Del Corro of Applabs Digital Studios Inc asking me to do  review on a kid's application named Maddie and Matt's Happy Earth, a free kid application for iOS and Android devices aimed to teach kids on how to save Mother Earth in their own special ways. The application also hopes to raise awareness not just to kids but to parents and adults as well about the status of the environment and on how we can do our share to save it for future generations.

maddieandmatt.com/happy-earth

I was able to use the application and have my kids tried it as well. I find it informative and helpful especially those interactive games on how to save water, electricity and how to properly segregate wastes which I never stop reminding my kids each time they tend to forget as in my opinion these things should be told over and over again until they learn their lesson. Sadly even in my place of work some adults still do not know how to do their share in saving the only planet we have simply by throwing their trash in the waste baskets. Thus the move to start teaching kids while their still young and infusing this knowledge through modern technology with the continued support of family members, the school and the media will serve an important reminder that we all have a responsibility to take care of our planet before it is too late.

Discovering HerWord

A lot of people often wondered why I know a lot of stuff even when I was a kid. It may have been true that I read a lot but often times my knowledge went beyond books. Though spending many hours infront of the tv helped there were days that ours was not working for months. Incidentally we were the last people in our neighborhood who had a colored tv simply because we could not afford it . Poverty and my dad 's illness made us struggle and not even my mom's basic salary as a grade school teacher was barely enough to make us through the day. However the hunger to learn had been ingested in our young minds by our parents. Thus the yearning to read and watch continued even if that would mean going to my aunt 's house and staying there for hours just to satisfy my longing for knowledge.

Nowadays it is not only through books, magazines and television where one can learn. The internet and the rest of the  cyberworld had contributed a lot where people can now be updated with just a click of the mouse. Though there are still some under priveleged ones who still rely on books , television, radio stations and the rest of the media, if one needs to be upbreast with the times social media will still be the utimate choice.

As a working mom of seven I always take into account what comes first. It is not really unusual to set aside things for recreation especially if one is constantly  bombarded with never ending financial demands from school fees, rent ,groceries  and utility bills. Though the hunger to learn and earn still had not been lessened one creatively search for means without having to look that far.  It was then that I  discovered Herword.com.

Herword.com is a site that caters not just to women but to men as well. It features stories and articles about lifestyle, fashion, finance, entertainment, legal matters, parenting, child rearing and relationships. It also offers different promotions where it is very easy to join and even win. Aside from that the site also accepts contributors for short stories and articles, an opportunity that I grabbed and luckily been rewarded when my article was featured on Mother's day of 2012. And that is not all because my daughter  Kyle also won in one of their promotions last December.

So if you are looking for a site where you can be updated, learn and earn at the same time come join the community of HerWord.com. Once you drop by you might just find yourself coming back for more.
